Save this story Save Story Save this story With this year marking Alex Consani ’s third time walking the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show , it’s safe to say that the top model has officially ascended to Angel status.
During the star-studded show, held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, Consani wore not one but two statement looks down the runway. The first was a classic pink bra and brief combo topped off with a matching sweeping cape with green accents; the second, edgier look was a black lace off-the-shoulder corset finished with golden feathered wings. “The VS Show always makes me feel so empowered,” Consani tells Vogue earlier this morning, fresh off her turn down the catwalk. “There’s something about the energy of it that’s unlike anything else. Everyone is there to have fun, feel amazing, and really own the moment.”
Photo: Getty Images Ever wondered what exactly goes into getting Angel-ready? Before hitting the catwalk, Consani brought Vogue along backstage as she got into hair and makeup yesterday—overseen by legends Guido Palau and Pat McGrath, respectively—and ran through rehearsals.
For Consani, preparing for the show all started with a more internal practice. “For me, preparing is mostly about getting myself into that mindset,” Consani says. “Obviously, you want to feel your best physically—but so much of it is about confidence and going out there ready to have the best time. The second I step onto that runway, the adrenaline takes over.”
A VS look is really about committing to the fantasy, and the second the whole look comes together, you feel completely transformed.
After finding the right headspace, receiving the full Angel glam treatment backstage—from the pro beauty team to the theatrical wings—certainly helped her get into supermodel mode even more. She says all of that excitement and frenetic energy backstage only allows one to get even more into character—especially when she’s alongside friends like Anok Yai or Vittoria Ceretti.
“Walking the runway itself is obviously such a rush, but honestly, some of my favorite moments happened backstage,” says Consani. “Everyone is getting ready together, hyping each other up, laughing, running around. Then suddenly you’re on the runway, and it all goes by in what feels like five seconds.”
I love those final few minutes before walking, when the hair and makeup are done, the look is on, and you see the full thing for the first time. That’s when it becomes real, and you’re like, “Okay, she’s ready!”
How did Consani celebrate the big night, after a successful strut in front of the cameras? The model says she and her fellow model-friends proceeded to hit the town in West Hollywood. “It was truly the best night ever. Everyone was in such high spirits after the show, so we were just dancing, laughing, and celebrating together,” says Consani. “The show itself is such an adrenaline rush that you almost need that moment afterward to let it all out. It was the perfect way to end the night.”
After a busy Fashion Month and the VS show, Consani is now taking some much-deserved and rightfully-earned time for herself. “I love getting back into the rhythm of work, seeing what’s next, and having a little time with the people I love,” she says. “I’m really grateful for everything happening right now, so I’m trying to stay present and enjoy it rather than rush ahead. But obviously, I’m always excited for the next fashion moment.”
