Bubba Wallace Is Tired Of Being A Teammate Until 23XI Needs Him To Be One

NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace (23) celebrates on the yard of bricks Sunday, July 27, 2025, during the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. During the race, Wallace expressed frustration about being put in a position to help teammate Tyler Reddick. The exchange sparked debate about whether Wallace was being a bad teammate or simply refusing to clean up somebody else's mess.

Reddick's No. 45 team was dealing with a fuel shortage, and assistance from Wallace could have helped him reach the end of the stage.

But that situation also created an obvious question: Why should Wallace risk his own race because another team's strategy went wrong?

Wallace has spent years driving for 23XI Racing, helping build the organization into a competitive Cup Series operation. He is not a designated support driver whose only job is to make life easier for Reddick.

He has his own career, his own results and his own reasons to race aggressively.

At the same time, teamwork matters at superspeedways. Manufacturer alliances and drafting cooperation are part of NASCAR, and Reddick was fighting for the championship.

The real controversy is not whether teammates should ever help each other. They obviously should.

It is whether the expectations are consistent when the situation gets uncomfortable.

Would the same criticism follow Reddick if he refused to help Wallace? Would fans view the situation differently if Wallace were the championship contender?

Those are fair questions, especially when the radio traffic becomes a national story.

Wallace finished 22nd at Talladega, while Reddick was caught in the late wreck and finished 37th.

But NASCAR fans now have another argument to settle: Is Wallace wrong for putting his own race first, or is 23XI asking him to sacrifice too much?
