On Friday afternoon, Woods' vehiclecollided with the trailer of a pickup truckalong a narrow road on Jupiter Island, Florida. Woods' SUV rolled over onto its driver's side, and Woods climbed out of the passenger side. After officers at the scene observed him acting "lethargic," he was arrested and taken to Martin County jail. He refused a urinalysis at the jail, and was charged with DUI and failure to submit to a lawful test.Woods has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge.
Afteracknowledging the severity of his situation, Woods announced earlier this week that he was seeking treatment for his personal issues, andremoved himself from considerationfor the captainship of the 2027 Ryder Cup team. His attorney has asked for permission for Woods to leave the country to seek treatment, citing privacy concerns.
Woods will not be in attendance at next week's Masters, and will be away from the game of golf for an undetermined length of time. This marks the fourth traffic incident for Woods in which police were involved. The most notable of those was a2021 California wreckin which Woods left the roadway at high speed and flipped multiple times. His injuries required significant reconstructive surgery, and his golf game — by far the least important of his many current challenges — has never recovered.
