INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Trent Middleton Jr. scored on a driving layup, got fouled and made a free throw with 4.5 seconds remaining, lifting North Carolina A&T over Hampton 71-70 in the HBCU Classic on Friday night as part of NBA All-Star weekend.

It was the Aggies' first lead since they scored the game's first basket.

Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt's potential tying floater just missed at the buzzer.

Middleton's defense was key over the final 57 seconds. He had consecutive steals that led to baskets by the Aggies (10-14, 3-10 Coastal Athletic) after they trailed by eight with nearly six minutes to go.

Lewis Walker led the Aggies with 18 points, including four straight free throws that tied the game at 68-all. Middleton finished with 15 points, including 6 of 7 free throws, and Will Felton added 12 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting.

Hampton (12-14, 6-7) was outscored 9-2 over the final 43 seconds, getting just two free throws by Gaines-Wyatt. He and Xzavier Long led the Pirates with 17 points each. Elijah Kennedy had 13 points off the bench. They had five players in foul trouble, including Long and Josh Ogundele who fouled out.

The neutral court matchup counted as a conference game for the schools that traveled over 2,500 miles to play in Kia Forum, the former home of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Both schools brought their bands, cheerleaders and mascots. The Pack Drumline that plays for Chicago Bulls and Chicago Sky games entertained before the game while Black fraternities and sororities showed off their dance moves. Chloe Bailey sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and the national anthem.

The HBCU Classic started five years ago during Black History Month to highlight historically Black colleges and universities as part of NBA All-Star weekend.

KOLKATA, India (AP) — England won the toss and elected to field against Scotland in their Group C game at the T20 Cricket World Cup in Kolkata on Saturday.

England lost to the West Indies last time out after surviving a scare in the opening game against Nepal before notching a four-run win.

Captain Harry Brook wanted to chase against Scotland, which beat first-timer Italy by 73 runs after losing to the West Indies in its first group game.

"We fancy chasing with a quick outfield and a good wicket," Brook said at the toss. "We were too careful with the bat versus West Indies."

Both teams are unchanged.

Scotland was included late in the tournament after Bangladesh refused to travel to co-host India due to security concerns.

Captain Richie Berrington said he would have liked to bat first but "the key is how we play spin in the middle period."

Ireland thumps Oman

In Colombo, Lorcan Tucker's blistering unbeaten 94 off 51 balls earned Ireland its first win in the tournament as it crushed Oman by 96 runs in Group B.

Tucker, leading the side after Paul Stirling was ruled out of the World Cup due to a knee injury, powered Ireland to this tournament's highest score of 235-5.

Gareth Delany hit 56 and George Dockrell smashed three sixes off the final three balls in a blazing 35 not out off nine deliveries.

In reply, Oman was bowled out for 139 in 18 overs after losing the last eight wickets for just 42 runs.

Opener Aamir Kaleem (50) and Hammad Mirza (46) put on 73 for the third wicket, but once Kaleem holed out after scoring his 28-ball half century, the Oman innings folded quickly. Fast bowler Josh Little grabbed 3-16 while Matthew Humphreys (2-27) and Barry McCarthy (2-32) shared four wickets.

"The [most recent] milestones would be my son talking," Palmer shared.

"The process of seeing him grow from being a little baby that didn't speak to having words, opinions and a personality is incredible," she added.

She continued, "He's teaching me — most importantly, I think — just how to relax and how to live, you know what I mean? Like when you see your kid, it really is a mirror to you with your own life, but you're able to give them … what you need to give to yourself. So it's been a real blessing."

At the premiere ofThe 'Burbs,Palmer also revealed that she was "excited" to take on the role of Samira — a woman who has just had a baby — in the series, because it tapped into some of her own experiences as a mom.

"It was actually kind of cathartic, because, well, the things that Samira was going through, even with her relationship and how that was impacted by having a child, and then postpartum and how, you know, you're trying to process things [while also being] so porous because you just [had] this human. I really related to a lot of that — and the horror behind it," she explained.

Thirty-five years afterThe Silence of the Lambsfirst terrified and captivated audiences, the film still stands as a landmark of psychological cinema.

Based on Thomas Harris' 1988 bestseller, the movie reshaped the thriller genre and produced one of the most enduring performances in history. At the center of its legacy isAnthony Hopkins' Dr. Hannibal Lecter– a role that had been passed over by multiple actors before landing in his hands.

"I played Lecter with great relish," Hopkins told PEOPLE exclusively in March 1991, shortly after the film's release.

In the film, Hopkins portrays a psychiatrist and psychotic cannibal imprisoned for his crimes, whom the FBI enlists to help profile other serial killers.

Rather than overthinking the role, Hopkins trusted his instincts to guide his character development, especially in the film's tense scenes oppositeJodie Foster's Clarice Starling– an ambitious FBI trainee seeking insight from a man she's terrified of.

"You can't play evil to portray evil," Hopkins, then 53, told PEOPLE while dining at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. "If you do, it becomes a travesty."

"This was the best, most controlled work I've done," he said, noting that "the part jumped straight off the script into my mind."

"I immediately knew Lecter's voice, how he looked. I understood his complexities. It was easy. I used to make heavy weather of acting. Now I just learn my lines, show up and do it. No need to torture myself."

To bring his "wacko" character to life, Hopkins tapped into his personal history, drawing on memories of growing up lonely in working-class Port Talbot, Wales. "Maybe it's in the genes," he admitted.

As an only child, Hopkins described having ''a balanced bond'' with his parents, Richard and Muriel, who ran a bakery. But he also recalled a household shaped by emotional distance. His father, he said, "tended to depression and dark moods."

"I just felt very isolated for years and years, didn't feel I belonged anywhere. It made me depressed and miserable," he told PEOPLE, explaining that he often drew that sense of melancholy into his acting.

As a young boy, school offered little comfort for Hopkins. Despite talent in music and art, he often felt lost in the classroom, describing himself as ''hopeless, pathetic, an idiot.''

''I thought I was nuts, I felt so weird,'' he added, explaining that acting became a way to cope and reclaim control.

''I used to impersonate people – teachers, later on army sergeants and famous actors – and made up bizarre situations for them. It was my way of controlling and getting back at what made me uneasy – authority," he told PEOPLE.

That emotional depth, however, didn't prevent Hopkins from keeping the atmosphere on set playful.

Despite being known for intense roles, Hopkins loved to regularly cut through tension bysneaking up behind actors and crewwhile in character forThe Silence of the Lambs.

"Not a shooting day went by without Tony gliding up behind Jodie or myself, baring his fangs," director Jonathan Demme recalled. "Or he'd look round with these gigantic eyes at the whole crew and go, 'You know Jonathan's the mad one. He never blinks. He's quite insane.' "

"His lightness made it easy for everybody else," Demme emphasized.

Whilechatting with PEOPLE in January 2024,Hopkins admitted he still feels the same way about the project over three decades later, calling it "one of the best parts I've ever read."

"I could understand Lecter. I could understand the mystery of the man, the loner, the isolated voice in the dark, the man at the top of the stairs who's not really there," Hopkins, now 88, said.

After its release 35 years ago,The Silence of the Lambsreceived widespread critical acclaim, winning the "big five" Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Hopkins, Best Actress for Foster and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Feb 14 (Reuters) - Medecins Sans Frontieres has halted "non-critical" medical activities at a major hospital in southern Gaza following reports from patients and its own staff of armed men inside the facility and concerns over the movement of weapons within it.

MSF's statement appeared to ‌mark the first time that an international humanitarian group in Gaza has publicly reported the presence of armed men in a hospital or ‌the possible use of such a facility for moving weapons.

The Geneva-based medical charity said non-essential operations at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis were suspended on January 20 over concerns with the "management of ​the structure, the safeguarding of its neutrality, and security breaches."

In recent months, patients and personnel had "seen armed men, some masked," in areas of the hospital compound, MSF said.

The Hamas-run Interior Ministry said in a statement it was committed to preventing any armed presence inside hospitals, and that legal action would be taken against violators. It suggested that armed members of certain Gazan families had recently entered hospitals, but did not identify those involved.

'UNACCEPTABLE ACTS' REPORTED, INCLUDING WEAPONS MOVEMENTS

Israel and Hamas agreed to a ‌ceasefire in October as part of a U.S. plan ⁠to end the war in Gaza. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violations.

Since the ceasefire, "MSF teams have reported a pattern of unacceptable acts, including the presence of armed men, intimidation, arbitrary arrests of patients, and a recent situation ⁠of suspicion of movement of weapons," it said.

According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 590 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops in the territory since the ceasefire began, while Palestinian militants have killed four Israeli soldiers in the same period.

MSF, also known as Doctors Without Borders, disclosed the Nasser Hospital suspension in a "frequently asked questions" section on ​its ​website about its work in Gaza, last updated on February 11.

The armed men had ​been seen in areas of the hospital compound where MSF ‌does not carry out activities, but their presence, along with suspected weapons transfers, posed serious security risks to patients and personnel, MSF said.

An MSF representative told Reuters the organisation continued to support some critical services at Nasser Hospital, including inpatient and surgical care for certain patients requiring lifesaving treatment.

'HOSPITALS MUST REMAIN NEUTRAL SPACES'

MSF said it had expressed concern to the relevant authorities, without detailing whom the reports were submitted to.

"Hospitals must remain neutral, civilian spaces, free from military presence or activity, to ensure the safe and impartial delivery of medical care," MSF said.

Israel last month ordered MSF and 30 other international organisations to stop its ‌work in Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank if they did not meet new rules, ​including sharing details about their staff.

MSF on January 30 said it would not submit a staff ​list to Israel after failing to receive assurances over their safety.

PARTS ​OF TUNNEL NETWORK FOUND UNDER HOSPITALS

The Israeli military says it has targeted hospitals during the war because Hamas fighters were ‌operating inside them, and parts of Hamas' tunnel network have been ​found running beneath medical facilities. The Palestinian ​Islamist group denies using hospitals for military purposes.

Some Israeli hostages, taken during Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel that ignited the war, have said they were held at Nasser Hospital, the largest in southern Gaza.

Hospitals are protected sites under international law. Both attacking hospitals and ​their use for military purposes are typically considered a ‌breach of law.

Although medical facilities can lose their protected status under certain conditions, rights groups say Israel has not shown sufficient evidence ​in many cases to justify its attacks on them during the war.

When No. 8 Illinois lost 92-90 in overtime to Wisconsin on Tuesday, top Fighting Illini perimeter defenders Kylan Boswell (broken hand) and Andrej Stojakovic (sprained ankle) could only watch from the bench as Badgers guards Nick Boyd and John Blackwell combined for 49 points and nine assists.

When Illinois lost in overtime last Saturday at Michigan State, Boswell was out and Stojakovic was hobbled while Spartans point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. piled up 26 points and 15 assists.

That's reason enough for Illinois (20-5, 11-3 Big Ten) to be keenly interested in getting Boswell and/or Stojakovic healthy and back into the lineup for the Sunday game against Indiana (17-8, 8-6) in Champaign, Ill.

However, when you throw in the fact that Hoosiers shooting guard Lamar Wilkerson went off for 41 points in a 92-74 whipping of Oregon on Monday -- and has averaged 30.8 points over the past four games -- it's close to imperative that the Illini get one or both of their defensive aces back.

"We've had some challenges guarding guards since Kylan's been out," Illinois coach Brad Underwood said.

Boswell, who fractured his right hand in practice on Jan. 19 and underwent surgery, has missed seven games and the Illini have gone 5-2. In addition to Fears, Boyd and Blackwell, Purdue's Braden Smith and Washington's Zoom Diallo enjoyed terrific nights against the non-Boswell Illini.

The good news for Illinois? Boswell (14.3 ppg, 3.4 apg) has practiced all week and is regarded as a game-time decision. Meanwhile, Stojakovic (13.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg) went through pregame warmups against Wisconsin, so it seems to track that he should be more of a sure thing.

Illinois doesn't just need them on defense. Freshman Keaton Wagler could use a break as the team's creator on almost every possession. During Boswell's absence, Wagler has skyrocketed into the NBA Draft lottery projections while averaging 24.6 points and 5.7 assists, but he also has averaged 37.4 minutes.

"He needs help," Underwood said. "He got picked up 94 feet (by Wisconsin) and they denied him. Not that that bothers him. It's remarkable, quite remarkable what he's been doing and the load he's (carried). I didn't realize he had 34 (points)."

The slender Wagler has attempted 64 free throws over the seven-game stretch as teams have been physical with him and helped extensively when he attacks the paint.

Indiana, meanwhile, feels pretty great after winning five of its past six to climb to No. 30 in the NET rankings entering the weekend. However, the Hoosiers' record against Quad 1 opponents is just 2-7, while Indiana is 15-1 in all other games.

Wilkerson has averaged 33 points over the past three games, boosting his season norm to 21.2 points per game on 38.7% accuracy from 3-point range (84 of 217).

"(Lamar) is playing at an incredibly high level," Indiana coach Darian DeVries said. "He's got to be in that conversation with a few other guys as the best player in the league this year."

The Hoosiers are getting significant contributions from Wilkerson's teammates, too.

Big man Sam Alexis has shot 24 of 25 (96.0%) from the field over the past five games.

Nick Dorn has given Indiana a third legitimate 3-point threat to go with Wilkerson and Tucker DeVries. Since being elevated to the starting lineup six games ago on Jan. 23, Dorn has averaged 14.0 points while hitting 20 3-pointers.
