Sunday's crash in the women's downhill medal event is the second in the last few weeksfor the U.S. skier, who is considered one of the great American (and world) skiers of all time. Her first crash came in her final race before the 2026 Winter Olympics, where she sustained a ruptured ACL in her left knee.
Her crash on Sunday was not due to her previous injury, though. It instead came 13 seconds into her downhill after Vonn'sright arm hooked the fourth gate, spun her off balance, and sent her crashing into the snow headfirst. As previously reported by USA TODAY,Vonn remained down in the snow and could be heard wailing in pain following her crash. She'd remain on the course for approximately 13 minutes before being loaded into a helicopter.
TheUS Ski & Snowboard Team issued an update on Vonnat 11:05 a.m. ET on Sunday, saying that the three-time Olympic medalist "sustained an injury" and "is in stable condition and in good hands with a team of American and Italian physicians."

North Dakota Stateis moving up in thecollege footballworld.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, theBisonhave agreed to a deal to join the Mountain West Conference, in football only, for the 2026 season. The school is expected to pay nearly $12 million to join the league, and will pay the NCAA another $5 million to the NCAA to move from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
REQUIRED READING:College football way-too-early top 25 poll for 2026 season
Thamel reported the deal is expected to be announced on Monday, Feb. 9. With NDSU moving to the MWC in 2026, that'll bring the league's total to 10 teams.
The Bison have won 10 of the last 15 FCS football championships and were the No. 1 seed in the 2025 FCS playoffs before losing to fellow Missouri Valley Football Conference team Illinois State in the first round. The Redbirds advanced all the way to the 2026 FCS Championship game where they fell 35-34 in overtime to Montana State.
Of note: NCAA bylaws prohibit teams making the jump from FCS to FBS from competing in bowl games or conference championships for two years. That's whyJames Madisonteams that went 8-3 in 2022 and 11-2 in 2023 were ineligible to compete for the Sun Belt Championship or bowl games, as they were in their first two years competing in the FBS.
There are exceptions to the rule: James Madison and another FCS-to-FBS program, Jacksonville State, both became bowl-eligible in 2023 after it was determined there were not enough teams eligible for bowl season that year.
The addition of North Dakota State to the conference aids a league that lost Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State to the Pac-12 in the latest round of NCAA realignment.
Despite the mass departures,Air Force, Nevada, New Mexico, San Jose State, UNLV and Wyomingall opted to stay in the conference.Hawaii is joining the leagueas a full-time member, while UTEP will join as a full member during the summer. Northern Illinois and NDSU joining as football-only members will bring the total to 10 teams.

At the jam-packed Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena on Thursday, where the United States was playing Czechia in a preliminary round Olympic hockey game, theHeated Rivalryeffect was out in full force.
A trio of moms in their 40s bought late seats to the affair, since the hit HBO Max drama about a pair of hockey rivals who fall in love—one Canadian, the other Russian—gave them the bug. Then there were the trio of American college kids from the U.S, studying abroad in Italy, at the game who just wanted to chat about the show. As did the Olympic hockey fans from Czechia, Scotland, and elsewhere. "I've been to a couple [New York] Rangers games, my dad played hockey in high school, so I've always known about it," says Erin Fox, 24, who lives in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. "But I did buy a hockey ticket to come see the women play the Czech Republic, partly because I like the show so much and I want to see it in action." The U.S. won, 5-1, with captainHilary Knightscoringa sweet top-shelf goalin the effort.
Heated Rivalry, produced for the Canadian-streaming service Crave, is now the most-watched original series on that platform, according toVariety. It's also now the top-rated non-animated acquired series on HBO Max since it launched in 2020. Globally, it's been HBO Max's top showin places likeTaiwan, the Philippines, Singapore and Finland; according toFlix Patrol, it's cracked the top 10 in Bulgaria, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
Olympic organizers have raced to capitalize on theHeated Rivalrycraze. In January, actors Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, who play the show's lead protagonists, carried the Olympic flame in Italy.Gary Bettman, commissioner of the NHL—whose players are participating in the Games for the first time since 2014—saidhe binge-watched the show in one evening, calling it a "wonderful story." The leaguealso acknowledgedthatHeated Rivalryhas delivered new fans to the sport.
Warning: Spoilers to follow.
InHeated Rivalry, which debuted on HBO Max in late November and has already been renewed for a second season, Williams' Shane Hollander, superstar player for a fictional Montreal pro franchise, and Storrie's Ilya Rozanov, who suits up for Boston, engage in a secret affair over the course of a decade. "I think it's definitely bringing an important conversation to the forefront, which is that a lot of LGBTQ+ athletes aren't comfortable disclosing that they are queer or gay," says Christina Singer, an aviation engineer from New Hampshire who is a fan of the series. "And I think that's something specifically that the NHL really has a lot of work to do [in]."
Williams has said that professional hockey, basketball, and football players have reached out to him, or author Rachel Reid, whoseromance novelsform the basis of the show, "somewhat anonymously" to share that they are closeted. According toThe Athletic, three NHL teams have moved away from a Pride Night model this season. However, the NHL has said that all fans of the show who come to its games will feel a "warm welcome."
Heated Rivalry's steamy love scenes between Hollander and Rosanov did surprise some viewers. "It was a little bit crazy for me to watch this show for the first time, because I thought that it would just be a show about ice hockey, nothing more special and spicy," says Eni Filipi, 19, who hails from Czechia.
The sex scenes, however, also won them over. "We do see a lot of steamy heterosexual stories, so why not see a steamy same-sex partner story?" says Ashley Henderson, an advertising executive from Princeton, N.J. "I thought it was a really refreshing new thing for viewers." The story attracted fans, too. Many broke into tears when a secondary character, New York player Scott Hunter, came out of the closet by kissing his boyfriend, smoothie shop barista Kip, on TV after winning the show's version of the Stanley Cup. "As somebody who's a part of the LGBTQ+ community, it was beautiful to see it on such a wide scale," says Ann Marie Seybold, a junior at James Madison University studying abroad this semester in Florence. "It was beautiful and brave."
"Queer audiences are really drawn to it right now," says Adrienne Katz, a producer who lives in New York City. "'It's not a 'kill your darlings' moment, or anything sad. It's so many different stories all intersecting. I think it's for every facet of the community. I'm excited that it's a show I get to watch with my partner."
Scott and Kip's public kiss inspires Rozanov to take up Hollander's offer for a summer visit to his Canadian cottage. The seclusion was supposed to give them a private setting to advance their relationship, but Hollander's father inadvertently discovers them together. Hollander then comes out to his parents, with his presumed hated rival, Rozanov, by his side. Hollander's parents are supportive of their son, another moment that resonated. "We're moms of three," says Henderson, who was joined at the U.S.-Czechia game by a pair of childhood friends. "We loved how the mom reacted to the discovery of their relationship. We thought it was very beautiful."

When asked to pick whether they preferred Hollander or Rozanov, most leaned towards the Russian character, citing factors like his curly hair and Storrie's effort to nail down a Russian accent (the actor grew up in Odessa, Tex.). "Probably Ilya," Enna McBride, 25, an electrical engineer with Ford Motor Company, responds when asked which of the characters she felt more connected to. "I'm chaotic."
With asecond season in the offing, the fever pitch around the show should have some staying power. At least through this month's Milano Cortina Olympics. "People who want to come along with us for a hockey game, definitely come along," says Elisha Black, a supporter of the Fife Flyers, a Scottish pro team. "It doesn't matter if you've come from romance books or television shows or whatever, we welcome you with open arms. We'd love to see you at some games. Hockey is for everyone."

Super Bowl LXis not only the NFL's biggest stage in 2026 — it's also a make-or-break broadcast for commercials, with the nation's top brands spending millions on 30- and 60-second ads aimed at winning over an audience that could top 100 million viewers.
For companies, the reputational and financial stakes are high. Running a 30-second ad during this year's Super Bowl will cost as much as $10 million, accordingto Bloomberg News. Advertisers also shell out millions more to produce their spots, often paying top dollar for celebrity spokespeople and to promote their commercials ahead of the big game.
The Feb. 8 game, which will pit the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots, will feature a host of returning advertisers, such as Budweiser and Pepsi, as well as new entrants, including health care company Ro and betting site Fanatics Sportsbook. Many advertisers are aiming for the funny bone this year, hoping to distract viewers from their concerns about theeconomyand polarized political views, experts said.
"Advertisers are seeing the Super Bowl as an opportunity to catch a break from all of that," Sean Muller, CEO of advertising research firm iSpot, told CBS News. "They really want to get people to not worry for a few hours. I think that's why humor has made such a surge."
Humor was also in evidence inlast year's Super Bowl ads, along with celebrity appearances, a trend expected to take center stage again in 2026, Muller said. Stars in this year's crop of spots range from Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, who appears in a Bud Light commercial with singer Post Malone, to pop star Sabrina Carpenter, who stars in a Pringles ad.
Advertisers typically either pre-release their Super Bowl ad in the days before the game or post a teaser that's aimed at getting viewers primed for their ad. Check out the already released ads and teasers below for Super Bowl 60.
Anthropic Super Bowl commercial
Anthropic — the AI company behind the Claude chatbot — will make its first Super Bowl appearance with a spot aimed at differentiating it from other AI companies. In the ad, a young man asks the personification of an AI chatbot for help with a workout, but the chatbot tries to sell him some shoes he doesn't want.
"Ads are coming to AI," the ad states. "But not to Claude."
The spot is "cleverly aimed at users of Anthropic rival OpenAI after that company's recent announcement that ads will appear on ChatGPT's free tier, TechCrunch said.

Extended Interview: Don Henley
50 years later, the Eagles' greatest hits still soar
JERUSALEM (AP) —Israel's security cabinet on Sunday approved measures that aim to deepen Israeli control over theoccupied West Bankand weaken the already limited powers of thePalestinian Authority.
The office of far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich in a statement announced the decisions that would make it easier forJewish settlersto force Palestinians to give up land, adding that "we will continue to bury the idea of a Palestinian state."
Yonatan Mizrachi, a researcher with the Israeli anti-settlement watchdog group Peace Now, called the decision "very significant." He said the decision still requires approval by Israel's top commander for the West Bank.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbasin a statement called the decision "dangerous" and an "open Israeli attempt to legalize settlement expansion" and land confiscation. He called for the United States and U.N. Security Council to intervene immediately.
Jordan's foreign ministry condemned the decision, which it said was "aimed at imposing illegal Israeli sovereignty" and entrenching settlements. TheHamasmilitant group called on Palestinians in the West Bank to "intensify the confrontation with the occupation and its settlers."
The decision was announced a few days before Israeli Prime Minister BenjaminNetanyahu is expected to meetwith U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington about Iran and other matters.
The measures announced Sunday include canceling a prohibition on sales of West Bank land to Israeli Jews, declassifying West Bank land registry records to ease land acquisition, transferring construction planning at religious and other sensitive sites in the volatile city of Hebron to Israeli authorities, and allowing Israeli enforcement of environmental and archaeological matters in Palestinian-administered areas.
The measures also would revive a committee that would allow the state of Israel to make "proactive" land purchases in the territory — "a step intended to guarantee land reserves for settlement for generations to come."
Peace Now in an explainer issued late Sunday called the decision aimed at "breaking through every possible barrier on the way to a massive land grab in the West Bank." Notably, it said, Israeli authorities will be able to demolish construction in Palestinian-controlled areas if they deem it harmful to heritage or the environment.
The West Bank is divided between an Israeli-controlled section where settlements are located and sections equaling 40% of the territory where the Palestinian Authority has autonomy.
